If you want to enjoy living in the concrete jungle of Sydney, then a visit to the China quarter in Haymarket is a must. Chinatown is an urban enclave situated in the southern part of the Sydney Central business district, in New South Wales, Australia. As you enter Chinatown you go under a paifang, a traditional Chinese gateway at each end of Dixon Street. The motto on the top say ‘ Within the four seas all men are brothers,’ and ‘Understand Virtue and Trust.’ These sayings underpin my love of the Chinese culture.
The China quarter has many beautiful eateries, including The eight , where you can enjoy beautiful decor, Chinese tea and Yum Char. It has a games area for the kids nearby, and the Markets are underneath, so you can stock up on some fruit and vegetables. Historically, Haymarkets was the fruit market for smaller corner stores around the city.
At the Eight we ate a beautiful desert, a mango pancake filled with cream and fresh mangos. I’d highly recommend this.
